Starter Case

Some people already know what kind of wine they prefer.
If you are just learning and want to try a variety of grapes with food, here’s the varietals that I suggest you buy.
Keeping these varietals in the wine rack allows for easy pairing on the fly.
- Chardonnay (California)
- Chardonnay (France)
- Sauvignon Blanc (California)
- Pinot Noir (California)
- Pinot Noir (Oregon)
- Burgundy (France)
- Chianti (Italy)
- Bordeaux (France)
- Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa)
- Merlot (California)
- Shiraz/Syrah (Australia)
- Petit Syrah (California)
I know I’ve left out soooo many possibilities but remember this is a starter case; I’ll post other case ideas too.

I love Chilean wine! The big deal with Chile right now is that the old world style used to be “throw it in the barrel and drink it”; but now young winemakers are using the fantastic grapes there to make wine in the new world style which makes it all so much more drinkable!
Here’s some of my favorites:
Montes…Alpha Syrah, Classic Series Merlot, Malbec and Malbec Reserve
I love two Carmeneres: Veramonte Primius and Vina Requinqua Viejo (I think of them as like bold and balanced Chiantis.)
I think you should add at least one pick from Chile. My wife and I have been to Chile, and they make wonderful wines. We think. … World Market in our area carries a nice selection.
