Fab Wine at the Farm
Mar 1st, 2009 by Alana
Quivira winery, in Dry Creek Valley, is at the top of my list of favorite spots. The people are gracious and friendly (dog friendly too), the wine is sublime, and the grounds are very clean and tidy…even though it’s a farm.
The winery is home to goats, pigs (Ruby & Rodney), chickens, a giant fig tree and a huge organic garden. (You don’t see –or smell– the goats and the pigs from the tasting room.) Eggs and produce are sold to local restaurants and a local artisan chef makes wonderful fig preserves and other delectables that are sold at the winery. (I made cottage cheese apple crepes with Fig Honey Preserves over the top…yum!)
You can sit (and picnic) in the lovely gardens with stunning views of the vineyards and hills beyond and taste winemaker Steven Canter’s exceptional wines. After years of working with other winemakers, his talent really shines at Quivira. Since I truly love all of his wines, I can’t pick just one or two to write about. The words that describe his style are elegant, smooth, balanced and delicately blended. I have no doubt that everyone who visits will find at least one wine that s/he loves. And the best news, they believe wine should be accessible so it is not expensive at all!
Visiting Quivira, you’ll feel its aura of happiness, adventure and wholesome energy while sipping sophisticated wines in a beautiful setting.
**Quivira has been a Demeter-certified Biodynamic and organic winery since 2005.

and I sit here with 2″ of snow on the ground and it is still coming down. Of course, I love a good snow once a year so I guess I can’t complain. We’ll just keep the fireplace burning and enjoy another glass of wine.

It’s raining here in NoCal. But the mustard is in bloom and it’s relatively warm. We do keep a stack of wood nearby but if we use more than 1/2 cord, it’s a cold year.
