Blind Tasting Chardonnay
Mar 28th, 2009 by Alana
I was given free samples of Bandit, in little juice boxes, so I did a fun, blind tasting against a Bogle Chardonnay ($10) and a 2006 Russian River Valley Lynmar Chardonnay ($25 & sold out). I labeled the glasses a, b & c. and asked my tasters to describe each wine, to guess which was the boxed wine and to choose their favorite. My tasters were my Hubby, my niece, Ali, and her boyfriend, Justin, who are both seniors at Long Beach State.
Here’s a list of their descriptions:
A – harsh, sting, watery, peaches, not complex
B – bland, bigger, floral, calm, smooth, light, great smell
C – sharp, sparkle, spice, light but heavy, long finish (unanimous)
Everyone’s favorite was C. Hubby thought B was the boxed wine and Ali & Justin picked A.
The answer….
C = Lynmar
B = Bogle
A = Bandit
Everyone agreed that committing to your first instinct is a good strategy. I’ve found that to be true for me too. Try it! It’s fun!

Many a blind tasting left participants surprised
Always lots of fun and may get wine snobs to try something they wouldn’t usually – and they usually like it!
