(Another) Anniversary
Sep 10th, 2009 by Alana

I think the first three years of a marriage are the best. I’ve met many giggling and grinning couples celebrating their anniversary and when asked, they report it’s been 3 years or less. That was a magical time for Bobby and I…let’s just say we were a little extravagant…mostly involving trips overseas and lots of fancy dinners.
A decade later (year 13), our celebrations are more subtle. I bet that’s true for a lot of people…kids, jobs, etc.
This year we went out to dinner at Toast, a cool neighborhood place that I love, that serves contemporary comfort food. I had Southern fried chicken, mashed potatoes and corn on the cob. (I don’t know how to make fried chicken like that–so fabulously moist the steam is almost water inside.)
The next day we went to the Sausalito Art Festival with full intentions of buying some fabulous art piece, but we didn’t find anything we wanted.
I made dinner for Hubby that evening. We started with Sparkling Shiraz (Paradise Ridge, 2004). I made baked Halibut with roasted yellow and red peppers, wild rice medley, a cream sauce with cilantro and green chilies, and herb salad with cucumbers etc. The pairing was fantastic, a Landmark Kanzler Pinot Noir (2007, $65).
Picture: I made this impromptu candle holder. The flowers are from my garden–roses and purple basil flowers.
