Being Loving

What does it mean to be loving? Great spiritual leaders are defined by their ability to love everyone and everything. Some people follow the teachings of Jesus, others seek guidance from Saints, Siddhartha or Abraham, some believe in angels and guides.
It occurs to me that we can not negatively judge others if we are loving. When we’re loving, we accept people of different faiths, politics, sexual orientation, lifestyle, economic status, culture, upbringing and ability. To accept with the purest heart means no hidden agendas, ulterior motives or pity.
I use two strategies to remind myself to be loving. If I have a negative reaction to someone, I quickly replace that thought with a genuine reaction, but for the grace of God, there go I. It’s an exercise in self-improvement–a reminder that we are all equal in the eyes of God.
Another strategy is I imagine the person that I’m having a negative reaction to is my brother, sister, parent or best friend. My first reaction to my family and friends is always loving, so I just have to tap into that when I disagree with them about something.
When I’m loving, it’s not about me or my own thoughts about what is right or wrong; it’s just about being loving. It feels good.
